FAQ

If you can't find the answer to your question here then please head over to our contact page and let us know about your problem.

How soon is the connection activated?

The service shall be activated within seven days from entering the subscription contract.

How to end ongoing Internet session?

Internet session ends if the computer has not renewed its IP address in five minutes. This means that if the computer or the network card is switched off for at least five minutes, one has to log in again in order to access the Internet. There is also automatic logout if the computer has been working for seven days in a row.

Using Internet address 1.1.1.1 it is also possible to end a session. We advise this possibility when one has many computers and wishes to switch the connection to other computer (otherwise wait for at least fine minutes before the switch).

How to terminate the contract?

To terminate a contract, a written informal application must be presented to the hall manager. When the room's contract ends, the Internet contract shall be also ended.

Is it possible to re-register the contract to the name of another user?

The contract can be re-registered only to the name of the roommate. For that, a written informal application must be presented to the hall manager. Re-registration is not charged.

What to do if after inserting username and password there is still no access to the Internet?

When, after inserting the username and password, the page that opens is the same campusnet.ee page, then: 1) either username or password has been inserted incorrectly (there is always one number in the middle of a password), 2) username is (temporarily) inactive (for example due to payment delays, violation of contract's condition, contract's status - not activated yet or ended).

When, after the attempt to authenticate, the next page stays downloading for a long time it is possible that there is already an active session started with the same username and password. In that case try to make sure if someone else or some other computer has had the access to your personal username. If so,  please inform us. NB! Keep personal username and password to yourself! When you have more than one computers, make sure that the Internet session has ended in one computer when trying to connect to the Internet with another one.

What to do if seven days have past since signing the Internet contract but there is still no network connection?

Check if the cable is connected properly. The plug needs to be pushed into the socket until a distinct "click" is heard and it will not come out with a slight pull. If there is more then one network socket in your room then try all sockets!

Check if the cable complies with the standards: Cat 5 UTP patch straight-through cable. If you have the correct cable, then the green LINK light should be visible on the network card.

If the LINK light is on, check next if the IP address provided automatically with DHCP is correct. To receive IP address with DHCP, the options "Obtain an IP address automatically” and "Obtain DNS server address automatically" must be selected from network options under TCP/IP properties. The obtained IP address must begin with 172.X.X.X (In case of Windows Vista look at the IP v4). To check the IP address, there is a program named winipcfg for Windows 9x (start through StartRuntype cmd) and the command ipconfig for Windows 2000/XP and Windows Vista, which should be started from the command line (the command line can be obtained by starting cmd in Start→Run→type cmd or from Start menu shortcut Command Promt ).

Check that your web browser is not using a proxy server. When using Firefox: Tools → Options → Advanced →Network→ Connection Settings → choose only Direct Connection to the Internet; for Internet Explorer: Tools → Internet Options → Connections → LAN Settings → uncheck all. Proxy server may hinder access to some web pages.

Check that the connection status is not set to Work offline: In the browser window remove the tick from Work Offline.

Check that the connection is not configured to ADSL or Dial up connection.

Check if JavaScript is enabled. For Internet Explorer: Tools Internet OptionsSecurityCustom Levelscroll down to Scripting and find Scripting of Java applets → choose Enable. For Mozilla Firefoxi: ToolsOptionsContent chooseBlock pop-up windows, Load images automatically, Enable JavaScript and Enable Java .

In case everything seems to be in order, but you still can not open web pages, please contact our technical support.

When moving, can I take my Internet connection with me?

If you move to another room or to another residence hall, you can take your connection with you. In that case you must submit a written application to the hall's manager 30 days prior to moving. Moving is not charged.

Where and when should the subscription fee be paid?

The subscription fee shall be reflected on Your room's invoice and is to be paid according to the conditions of the invoice presented.

What are the suitable network card and cable?

Suitable network cable is Cat 5 UTP patch straight-through cable.
